After months and months of silence, Drake has finally announced the release date of his forthcoming album, Nothing Was the Same. Not only did the album get an official release date, but the rapper/singer also sweetened the package with a handful of other tasty treats.
As a part of the announcement, Drake released four brand new tracks as well as a trailer to promote the new album. The promo features an excited Drake as he's receiving his Best Rap Album Grammy for Take Care. Then while he takes the award out of its box, he pours shots into the gramophone's horn and drinks from it, encouraging all his colleagues to drink as well, "so you know it's real," he says.
"I'm going to put it in my mom's house," Drake says as he cleans the trophy and reminisces on his success. "My vision always included a speech. That's the only thing that wasn't accurate." Watch the promo below.
Drake posted the new songs on his October's Very Own website. The four songs include Migos' "Versace," PartyNextDoor's "Over Here," and two of his own originals, "The Motion" and "Jodeci Freestyle." Give them all a listen below.
After tweeting the link to the new tracks, Drake also announced that his next album, Nothing Was the Same, would hit stores September 17. Last week, he announced a 41-date tour to support the record. Check out the tour dates here.
Drake is finally making his return. Brace yourselves. In the past he's managed to raise the bar, rebrand himself and alter the course of hip hop. This time around should be no different.
