A few months ago, Lucasfilm confirmed that the next "Star Wars" film, currently known as "Episode 7," would film in the United Kingdom. Despite this news, it was unknown where in the UK the production would take place. The answer to that question is no longer a mystery.
According to Screen Daily, "Production is already moving in to Pinewood in preparation for the early 2014 shoot with crew also being assembled."
The publication also noted that all of the previous installments in the franchise had been shot in the UK and that Pinewood had been utilized in one of those films. Other films slated for production at Pinewood include "Cinderella," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "The Avengers 2." The studio will also be home to a number of other smaller UK productions.
The biggest piece of news surrounding the production has been the unveiling of a casting call with information on the characters needed for the film. Among the characters being sought out are:
- Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humor, fit.
- Young 20-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.
- A late 20-something male, fit, handsome and confident.
- A 70-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanor. Also doesn't need to be particularly fit.
- A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.
- A 40-something male, fit, military type.
"Star Wars Episode 7" is slated for production in early 2014 with a target launch date set for the summer of 2015. J.J. Abrams will direct a script by Michael Arndt while Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy will produce the project.
