Those looking for an official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for their Galaxy Note 2 might finally have a release date to latch on to: August.
It wasn't too long ago that we learned that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 update had hit some snags, and would take longer to land on handsets than previously thought. Instead of June, the upgrade is now expected to roll out sometime during Q3 2013, and if Australian wireless service provider Telstra is correct, that translates to August.
Telstra's handset updates page now states that the carrier is "waiting for initial vendor submission" of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 firmware. Telstra states that it expects the upgrade to be submitted in early July, and that the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2.2 patch will become available to the public around August 5.
Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy Note 2 was originally expected to land in June, but it was revealed that Samsung was having troubles with the new TouchWiz user interface. The new TouchWiz will bring Galaxy S4 features over to the Galaxy Note 2. Samsung has shown a tendency to port over bells and whistles from its latest smartphone to its older devices. The South Korean electronics manufacturer did the same soon after the Galaxy Note 2 release late last year - the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2, and Galaxy Note all received a healthy helping of Galaxy Note 2 exclusives like Multi-Window.
