Another day, another "50 Shades of Grey" casting rumor. In the absence of any confirmation from E. L. James or Universal Studios as to who will play the roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, fans are left to their own devices, and that can become dangerous. They dig and scrounge for any inkling of a clue. Sometimes their speculations are poorly reinforced and are nothing but mere rambles, sometimes they're blown out of proportion, and sometimes they're spot on. Regardless, it keeps the "50 Shades of Grey" wheel turning, and in the end, it's all harmless. Why not daydream about who could take on the seductive, kinky roles?

Certain actors that appear in more daydreams than other continually rack up the "50 Shades" points day in and day out. One of the most popular contenders for the role of Christian, Ian Somerhalder, is doing just that this summer while he takes a break from the set of "The Vampire Diaries." He's using his 'free' time to extend his career from television to the big screen, starring in "The Anomaly."

"The Anomaly" is far from the "50 Shades of Grey" role that fans were hoping for, but he's moving the right direction and the shooting schedule doesn't conflict with that of "50 Shades." Now that he has more experience working on a feature film, what's to stop him from taking on the role of Christian Grey?

In "The Anomaly," Somerhalder will star alongside Alexis Knapp, Brian Cox and Luke Hemsworth in Noel Clarke's upcoming film. "The Anomaly" is a sci-fi thriller that follows a former soldier who awakens in the back of a van with a young kidnapped victim by this side. He soon realizes that he has only nine minutes and 37 seconds to get a handle on the tense situation at hand. It's unclear as to why the soldier has such an odd allotted time period to figure things out, but perhaps that's all part of hype.

By starring in "The Anomaly," Somerhalder is opening the door to a plethora of new opportunities. Let's hope the next step is toward the Grey.
