Metal Gear Solid V made a big splash at this year's E3 thanks to the several minutes of real-time gameplay that kicked off Microsoft's Press Conference. The franchise, awakened from its multi-year hiatus by Kojima-san in spectacular fashion, will release on the PS4 and Xbox One as well as current generation consoles, Konami has confirmed.
At the show, Polygon got the chance to sit down with the famed creator to discuss the next-gen versions of the game.
"Once we start going into development for next-generation we're definitely looking for something better than [what] we have shown today," explains Kojima. "While we were developing on current-gen, next-gen came along. We're really trying to reach the peak of the current generation right now--360, PS3--and then see how much we can take it up for the next-generation."
Snake's latest adventure runs on Konami's proprietary Fox Engine, an impressive showcase of their team's technical prowess. Metal Gear already looks nearly as good, if not better than, a few of the next-gen titles that have been shown off at E3. As the release date approaches, the next-gen Metal Gear Solid V may very well exceed the graphical fidelity we have been shown over the past few days.
Metal Gear Solid V stars Snake once again in a decidedly Big Boss flavor. Set decades before Metal Gear Solid, the game is split into two halves: a prelude known as Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. The primary setting is Afghanistan, although gamers shouldn't be surprised if Kojima pulls the rug from under their feet, as he oft loves to do.
The voice of snake, David Hayter, will not return, and has been replaced by 24's Kiefer Sutherland. Metal Gear is now open-world and will feature dynamic enemy AI who conduct their own daily routines as the minutes and hours pass in real time.
