It may be summer break in Mystic Falls, but that doesn't mean that "The Vampire Diaries" stars are sitting by the pool, glass of lemonade in hand, daydreaming the summer away. They're hard at work, taking their time away from the vampire drama to expand their careers and explore the world. One of the show's biggest stars, heartthrob Ian Somerhalder, took time out this summer to tour Europe and Asia, appeasing fans around the globe and beginning production on his new feature film, "The Anomaly."
Along his journey, Somerhalder popped into the 2013 BloodyCon in Neuss, Germany with "Vampire Diaries" costars Paul Wesley, Torrey DeVitto, David Anders and Malese Jow. Check out a collection of photos from Monday's event here.
There was no sign of Somerhalder's costar and former squeeze Nina Dobrev, but it didn't seem to slight him in the least. In the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries," Somerhalder and Dobrev's characters will be back in each other's arms as they try to start a "new relationship," according to "Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec. They'll try to make it work but an unforeseen villain in their midst will make things difficult. Let's hope the two actors' past won't interfere with their onscreen relationship, but at the same time, it could make things even more interesting.
In "The Anomaly," Somerhalder will star alongside Alexis Knapp, Brian Cox and Luke Hemsworth in Noel Clarke's upcoming film. "The Anomaly" is a sci-fi thriller that follows a former soldier who awakens in the back of a van with a young kidnapped victim by this side. He soon realizes that he has only nine minutes and 37 seconds to get a handle on the tense situation at hand. It's unclear as to why the soldier has such an odd allotted time period to figure things out, but perhaps that's all part of hype.
Production is underway in London and New York with Somerhalder on the London set, as his many tweetsv indicate.
"Wheels down in London-getting ready for work on @TheAnomalyMovie have scenes with BRIAN COX-so cool... Good night beautiful world," he wrote upon returning from his trip to BloodyCon.
Somerhalder will be returning to the U.S. later this summer to begin production on the fifth season of "The Vampire Diaries."
