The Walking Dead has spawned several critically acclaimed projects spanning comics, books, television, and video games. Telltale's The Walking Dead captured many gamers' imaginations when it allowed them to step into the world of the comics and take on the series' trademark moral decisions in a five episode game. Well now it appears that Telltale is releasing a brand new episode in the series, entitled The Walking Dead: 400 Days.
A trailer for the episode premiered during E3, and was hinted as repeatedly before the expo through a series of videos on Vine. The game also appeared on Steam's database, hinting that the episode would be a standalone episode, and not part of the upcoming season two, which is scheduled for release in the fall.
The trailer reveals that the episode will revolve around five separate stories that the player must follow. It is unclear how, or if, the five stories will connect, but it is safe to say that Telltale would blend the stories together in some way over the course of the episode. This episode may also hint at the events for the upcoming season two, though this is less of a certainty. The trailer announces that the game is coming soon, presumably before season two is set to be released. The DLC appears to be coming to several consoles, including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Vita, Steam, and Mac this summer for $4.99.
With the increasing focus on digital downloads in the next generation of consoles, The Walking Dead has a chance to be one of the first and biggest digital continuing titles of the future. With an emphasis on story rather than action, season one of the game series was met with many game of the year awards, and that tradition could continue well into the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's life cycle.
