Jamaica will look to salvage its World Cup hopes when it takes on Honduras Tuesday in the 2014 CONCACAF qualifiers.
The top three teams earn automatic berths to the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer while the fourth place team must face off against New Zealand in a two legged playoff to qualify for the tournament.
Jamaica sits at the bottom of the CONCACAF standings with only two points in five matches. While a loss would not kill the team's chances, it would certainly separate Jamaica from the pack in a negative way. With a loss, Jamaica would be at least four points behind the fifth place team with only four games to go. The team is coming off a tough 2-1 loss against the United States at home. The game was tied 1-1 until the Americans scored a late goal to take the three points.
"We just need to focus, stay positive and hope for the best," said Jamaica coach Theodore Whitmore.
Jamaica will have to take on a Honduras squad that is also desperate to avoid falling out of the race. Los Catrachos currently sit in fifth place with four points. They are coming off a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica, their second straight. Honduras needs to take these three points because it will be facing the United States and Mexico in its next two qualifiers; the two sides are among the top contenders in the group and could easily eliminate Honduras with two straight wins.
Prediction: Honduras is a superior squad and will likely pull off a huge 3-0 win at home.
