America's favorite vampires may be on summer break, but that doesn't mean "The Vampire Diaries" team isn't gearing up for the upcoming fifth season this fall. As production begins, rumors trickle down to eager fans, providing them with a taste of what's on the horizon. Executive producer Julie Plec has been kind enough to offer fans plenty to chew on during the summer months, and continues to do so with yet another revealing interview.

"[There's] college, Paul Wesley playing two characters, a human Katherine... My God, like how great. Like the first time she catches a cold, how friggin' pissed is she going to be?" said Plec during the ATX "Vampire Diaries" panel. "You know, a new relationship with Damon and Elena trying to make it work and a villain in their midst that they don't know is a villain in the beginning. And Jeremy having to go back to school! Like what the hell cover story is that going to be? They had a memorial service for the kid. There were flyers!"

"I think that there's going to be some great new characters and a great new world with the college thing," she added. "And some great romance and a pretty cool mythology in terms of Silas and the mystery of his past."

That's a lot to look forward too, and while most of what Plec shared are details that have already made their way to "Vampire Diaries" fans, there's one piece if information that's particularly intriguing. At the end of season 4, Elena finally chose Damon over Stefan, but while their relationship blossoms at Whitmore College, Plec now informs fans that there will be a villain among them without their knowing. Could the villain be a new arrival to the show, or will it be one of the couple's many enemies in disguise? Either way, things are certainly going to get more interesting between the two vampire lovebirds.

"The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW this fall.
