Correction: Dead Rising launched in August 2006 and was not a launch title for the Xbox 360
Capcom has confirmed Dead Rising 3 at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference, backing up rumors that the dormant franchise would make a return on next-generation consoles. The sequel will be an Xbox One exclusive and introduce a brand-new protagonist.
So, what's new? In the gameplay footage shown, a new weapon crafting system was showcased. Rather than using a workbench to combine tools, players can simply trigger a menu mid-game to create their very own custom zombie-repellant.
In another natural move for the series, the Xbox One allows for a greater number of zombies on screen at once. When Dead Rising 1 released for the Xbox 360 as a launch title, it was a technical marvel which displayed the capabilities of the system. Capcom no doubt aims to channel that legacy this time around as well.
Cars are still available to traverse the open-world environment, which requires no loading according to the developer. Zombies can now grab onto cars and attack players while they drive, triggering a momentary struggle where players have to fight off the undead.
Lastly, Dead Rising 3 will feature smartglass integration. Capcom showed off the tablet and smartphone integration by demonstrating a player call in artillery using their touch device.
So far, no release date has been announced. Stay tuned for the latest updates from Latinos Post.
