Pablo Escobar's seventh episode commenced with Escobar making a promise to rescue Irma from the MR 20 guerilla movement.
When his strategies fail, Escobar seeks out Ortiz, a politician, to use government contacts to help him secure the release of Irma. Irma is eventually liberated and returns to her father's house.
As a result, Escobar and his gang celebrate her return with an extravagant feast in which a Venezuelan singer named "Pantera" is showcased. "Pantera" sings to Escobar, but then proceeds to dedicate a romantic number to Escobar's wife Patty; an act that the jealous Escobar does not appreciate. Escobar proceeds to have "Pantera" beaten up and kicked out of the party. Ortiz arrives at the party and Escobar offers to pay him back for the favor. Ortiz responds that he is not seeking money, but instead asks Escobar to become a politician. Escobar responds that he will respond at a later date to the proposition.
Escobar and his men run off to Rio de Janeiro and discuss Ortiz's proposition. None of his men are keen on the idea even though Escobar argues that the political power will give him greater clout and help his drug business. His main aim is to become friends with Manuel Antonio Noriega, the president of Panama, who he believes is the key to facilitating drug exportation and transport.
Escobar returns to Medellin and discusses the proposal with his mother. She disapproves of the idea. Regardless, Escobar pays a visit to a rally of Carlos Galan Sarmiento, the leader of a new political movement who is determined to become the president of Colombia. Sarmiento's aim is to rid the government of corruption.
Escobar returns to Ortiz and accepts his proposal to become a politician.
