McDonald's is offering a new late-night menu for the night owls. The world-famous fast food chain is trying out a new menu called "After Midnight" which allows customers to mix and match their favorite McDonald's meals.
The new menu offers both breakfast and regular menu items and provides consumers the choice to either order a Big Mac or an Egg McMuffin with fries or hash brown and coffee or juice.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the new feature aims to serve the night owl demographic that "gets a craving for burgers past dinnertime and yearns for a breakfast sandwich far before most people are out of bed."
While a typical 24-hour McDonald's location would offer lunch items after midnight, the new After Midnight menu will also offer breakfast items like sausage burrito, oatmeal and hot cakes. McCafé drinks and dessert items will also be part of the After Midnight mix.
Typical 24-hour restaurants of the chain only offer breakfast from 5 to 10:30 a.m. only.
"Our customers want convenience around the clock," a statement by McDonald's noted.
According to The Times, the scheme is already being implemented in Northern Delaware and in Bryan and College Station in Texas. A tweet by McDonald's Indiana also noted that the service in now in place in Northern Indiana. It will be rolling out to select 24-hour McDonald's location in the US this month.
Currently, there are over 14,000 McDonald's locations in the US that are open all the time. The company also said in their statement that they are looking to expand this number.
"We're making it easier to eat at McDonald's with more 24-hour restaurants open than ever before."
The company also noted that the new service has been in testing for over a year before its implementation.
Notably, McDonald's is not the first to offer this service. Taco Bell has been running a late night menu for years now, while IHOP offers all day breakfast and Jack in the Box has been a common late night stop.
