The fate of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and XV has remained a closely guarded secret within the walls of Square-Enix's headquarters, but on June 11 at 9 AM, the company will lift the veil. Destructoid reports that the company has sent out invites to a "Future of Final Fantasy" conference, where they will likely show off the promised Playstation 4 sequel.
While next to nothing is known about Final Fantasy XV, rumors suggest that the long gestating Versus XIII project has been re-branded as the next official iteration of the series. Sources close to the developer tell VG Leaks that the title is now a PS4 exclusive as well.
Versus XIII was originally announced back in 2006 under the stewardship of Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Aside from Square-Enix's invite, little is known about their projects.
While we don't know how the next Final Fantasy will play, press and players were given a glimpse at the developer's next-gen graphics engine known as Agni's Philosophy a few months back. Square-Enix plans to reinvigorate the franchise on next-generation consoles, but has not forgotten to give current consoles some comfort. On August 27, the MMO Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will launch, in an attempt to make up for the title's initial botched release. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the end of a trilogy, will land on store shelves in February.
Check back as June 11 approaches for the latest Final Fantasy updates.
