Fans of Shonda Rhimes' hit political drama 'Scandal,' got the shock of their lives when they discovered that Rowan (Joe Morton) was Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) father. The news was revealed just seconds before the season two finale ended, leaving fans hungry for more details into the troubled pair's father-daughter relationship.
According to a recent article by The Hollywood Reporter, Morton revealed to fans that he "knew all along" that he was Olivia's dad during an event at the Television Academy in North Hollywood. The reveal not only shocked viewers but also begged the question: Did Rowan really order B613 to kill his daughter?
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes told reporters, "B613 did seem to be trying to kill her, kind of. At the very least, Rowan was trying to get Jake to have sex with her then make a tape of it, which seems creepy on many levels, right? At the very least that's a little disturbing on many, many levels. I don't know if they were trying to kill her, that's up to interpretation."
The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that the show may not do its customary time jump for the upcoming season's opener. Rhimes said, "It's not fair to drop that kind of bomb and then be like, 'Now we're going to jump ahead in time!' We actually are talking about starting next time with no time jump at all. Starting maybe 25 minutes after we leave the last season." The lack of a time jumps means fans will definitely get some more Rowan and Olivia time.
Rhimes also spilled that fans should expect a "search to be had" for whoever leaked that Olivia was in fact President Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) mistress. Who could have betrayed Olivia's trust and what will happen to her now broken romance with Fitz?
'Scandal' season 3 returns this fall to ABC.
