Mystic Falls is currently on summer break, but that doesn't mean that fans have lost interest in "The Vampire Diaries'" biggest stars. While fans sit around and wait for the series' return this fall, the actors keep busy, doing all they can to take full advantage of their break from all the vampire drama. One of the show's most adored stars, Ian Somerhalder, is taking his career to new heights and making his way to the big screen with his new film, "The Anomaly."
Somerhalder will star alongside Alexis Knapp, Brian Cox and Luke Hemsworth in Noel Clarke's upcoming film. "The Anomaly" is a sci-fi thriller that follows a former soldier who awakens in the back of a van with a young kidnapped victim by this side. He soon realizes that he has only nine minutes and 37 seconds to get a handle on the tense situation at hand. It's unclear as to why the soldier has such an odd allotted time period to figure things out, but perhaps that's all part of hype.
Fellow "Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev will also make her way to big screen during the summer break. Last week, the actress tweeted a photo from her first day at work on the set of "Let's Be Cops" alongside co-star Damon Wayan Jr. The film will feature two best friends who pose as law officials until things go awry.
As "The Vampire Diaries" stars are off making the most of their summers, the show's writers are currently one week into the new season. Filming on season 4 wrapped in April, which is when Somerhalder and Dobrev packed up and moved on to their next ventures until they have to return for season 5 production on "The Vampire Diaries."
"The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW in October, 2013, but in the meantime, fans can keep up with the show's biggest stars as they trek far away from Mystic Falls.
