Samsung may look to introduce the next in its beloved Galaxy Note lineup sooner than expected. A new rumor has the Galaxy Note 3's release time frame pegged between July and August.
Tech news outlet DigiTimes reports that Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy Note 3 to steal some of Apple's thunder. The Cupertino giant is apparently gearing up to release new iPhones in the third quarter of 2013, and Samsung will counter with the Galaxy Note 3 and a low-priced Galaxy S4 version.
"In preparation for the competition from Apple, Samsung Electronics reportedly plans to launch a low-priced version of its Galaxy S4 in the third quarter as well as a new Galaxy Note 3 in July-August," writes DigiTimes.
As usual, DigiTimes sources the information to "industry sources" from Taiwan.
DigiTimes doesn't have the most reliable track record, so remember to take this report with a healthy helping of salt. Previous reports suggested that Samsung would reveal the Galaxy Note 3 at IFA in September, putting it on track for a holiday launch. Samsung lifted the curtains on the Galaxy Note 2 last year on August 29, and proceeded to ship the phablet out beginning in October.
Samsung has not officially announced the Galaxy Note 3, but intrepid tech sleuths have already begun uncovering the device's specs. If everything holds true, the Galaxy Note 3 should come with a 6-inch 1080p display, 3GB RAM, and an eight-core CPU. Similar to the Galaxy S4, it should have an Exynos 5 Octa eight-core processor variant and a Qualcomm model powered by the Snapdragon 800. Expect the latest version of Android and the popular S Pen electronic stylus.
