Henry Cavill is in talks to star in "Man From U.N.C.L.E."
Hollywood Reporter announced that the "Man of Steel" star would replace Tom Cruise in the role of Napoleon Solo. Cruise dropped out of the project last week to concentrate on the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 5."
Cruise' departure marked the second actor to leave the planned film. George Clooney was originally set to play Solo when Steven Soderbergh was slated to direct. However Clooney dropped the film after a back injury he suffered on "Syriana." Soderbergh later left production when he was not able to find a replacement.
"U.N.C.L.E" follows the spy adventures of American agent Solo and Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin. The film will be based on the 1960 spy series which originally starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.
Armie Hammer is on board to play the role of Kuryakin while Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is in final negotiations for the female lead.
Cavill is currently promoting his new Superman film which was directed by Zack Synder. The British actor has also starred in "Immortals,"Stardust" and "Cold Light of Day." He also made an appearance in "The Tudors."
Hammer will next be seen in "The Lone Ranger" alongside Johnny Depp and Helena Boham Carter. Since his break out role in "The Social Network," Hammer has also been seen in "Mirror Mirror" and "J. Edgar."
Vikander last starred in "A Royal Affair" and "Anna Karenina." The Swedish actress will next be seen in "The Fifth Estate" with Benedict Cumberbatch and in "The Seventh Son" with Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges. She will also appear in "Son of a Gun" and is currently filming "Hotell."
"Man from U.N.C.L.E." will be directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes) and distributed by Warner Bros.
