Samsung followed up last year's flagship Galaxy S3 with a mini variant that proved to be a popular mid-range option and all signs indicate the mobile giant will do the same with this year's Galaxy S4. While details have been scant on the Galaxy S4 Mini, it looks like the handset will be revealed on June 20 in London.
Samsung recently announced their "Premiere 2013" event will be held at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London at 3 p.m. EDT June 20. The focus of the event will be Samsung's Galaxy and ATIV lineups. Samsung has not confirmed which devices will be shown off, but it's safe to say that Samsung's Galaxy S4 Mini should be an integral part of the presentation. Still, until we see for ourselves what the South Korean electronics manufacturer has in store, remember there's a possibility the Galaxy S4 Mini won't make an appearance.
A June 20 reveal would tie in nicely with the rumored mid-July release date. According to website SamMobile and its insiders, Samsung plans on releasing the Galaxy S4 Mini during week 29 of 2013, translating to the week of July 15. This would give Samsung a whole month to shore up inventories and build some marketing momentum - a strategy the company has employed with past device launches.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is expected to be a cheaper mid-range version of the Galaxy S4 with a smaller display, and many have compared it to a repackaged Galaxy S3 (speculatively, of course, since nobody has seen the actual smartphone). The handset should release in a variety of models - some with LTE, some with quad-core processors instead of dual-core ones, some more with more or less RAM - but the display should be a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED and the rear-facing camera should take stills at 8 megapixels across the board. Expect the same plastic construction as the Galaxy S4 and Android 4.2.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini never made its way to the States, so we'll have to wait to find out if its successor will.
