FIFA 14 was already shaping up to be one of the best soccer video games before Microsoft revealed their next-gen version of the game during the Xbox One reveal event yesterday.
But now anticipation for the game has increased even further thanks to the EA Ignite engine that both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game will use. Ignite promises to increase the realism and organic feel of FIFA 14, as well as the other sports games on EA's roster.
"For the first time ever 3D crowds and dynamic sidelines will impact the experience, and rich sports atmospheres will change organically based on the progress of a match. Player actions will change depending on the situation, and crowds will have an expectation of how a game is likely to play out, and react accordingly," EA said during the Xbox event.
One of the main elements of sports games that break the player's suspension of reality are views of the virtual crowds, which often act like cardboard cutouts brought to a zombie-like state during the action. Now Ignite promises to up the ante for virtual crowds and show the affect that masses can have on a game.
Ignite also will make the actual players in the game act more naturally and EA specifically pointed to FIFA 14 as an example of how the Ignite will make the next-gen sports titles even better.
"In FIFA 14, for example, [an AI] player's sense of urgency increases as the match draws on and a goal is needed, rushing to take a free kick, corner or goal-kick if time is running down," EA said.
It is unknown when the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of FIFA 14 will be available, but it will most likely follow the launch of the current generation versions of the game.
