A new video has leaked of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, the rugged, waterproof (and orange) version of Samsung's flagship smartphone.
However, contrary to previous reports, it looks like the Active isn't just a resilient clone of the Galaxy S4. According to the leaker, it's specs are a bit down market.
"Earlier today, our friend Matija sent us some photos of Samsung's upcoming rugged counterpart to the Galaxy S4 Android smartphone. He got his hands on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and in addition to those photos, he shot a short video of the device. This is the Samsung GT-I9505, and he tells us it has a dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus CPU and an 8MP rear camera, but the rest of the specs are the same as the non-rugged GS4," writes MobileTechReview.
The Snapdragon S4 Plus is a perfectly acceptable processor (it's currently found in the Sony Xperia Z), but it doesn't offer quite the same power or performance as the Snapdragon 600 found in U.S. versions of the stock Galaxy S4.
An 8-megapixel camera isn't a big loss, though it's a bit disappointing considering the waterproof nature of the Active makes it more likely to be available during outdoor excursions, when you're more likely to need a great camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active features a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It is dustproof and waterproof down to a meter in depth for as long as 30 minutes.
