After the shocking season 4 finale of "The Vampire Diaries" last week, fans have been toiling with two major developments. One, they're learning how to cope with the fact that Stefan is Silas' doppelganger. Two, Stefan fans are mourning Elena's decision to choose Damon while Delena fans worldwide rejoice. Although these two ingredients are the most important developments to spawn from the finale, there are other aspects that need to be taken into consideration before moving forward.

With all this talk about Elena (Nina Dobrev), fans have forgotten about her rival, Katherine (Dobrev). She's human now, and with the majority of Mystic Falls against her, what's stopping everyone from killing her? Executive producer Julie Plec has the answers.

"Absolutely nothing is going to stop everyone from trying to kill her," Plec said during an interview with TV Line. "That's what puts her in a pickle that is going to have her seeking out protection from unlikely sources."

Very curious. Who's going to be around in season 5 to get Katherine's back? Fans will just have to wait and see. With Stefan (Paul Wesley) gone, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) attached to Elena's hip, and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) on "The Originals," who's left?

"That's the realization she comes to over her summer break," Plec said. "'Oh, boy, did I screw up, and now my chickens are coming home to roost.' She's definitely going to find herself on the wrong end of a lot of vendettas."

And finally, now that Katherine's human, not only can she be killed, but also Klaus can use her to make more hybrids. "The Originals" may be a spin-off series, however it will feature many characters from "The Vampire Diaries," so expect to see a lot of crossover. Although it would be possible for Katherine to appear in "The Originals" serving as a tool for Klaus, Plec denied any rumors.

"Given his experience with his hybrids, he might be a little gun-shy about creating another army that could potentially be used against him."

"The Vampire Diaries" will return to The CW in Fall 2013.
