The cast of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" appeared at the Cannes Film Festival for a dinner and party promoting the film.
During the red carpet event prior to the party the cast got to reveal a little about the film. Starlet Jennifer Lawrence told reporters that she was excited to be at Cannes because it was the first time she was attending the celebrated film festival. She revealed that she was enjoying her time at the French Riviera, but was annoyed that it had rained.
When asked about the new "Hunger Games" movie, Lawrence said that she adored her character Katniss and that she was having a lot of fun playing the role. She also stated that the film was "visually huge and stunning" and that it would dive a little deeper into the capital. She revealed that in the film Katniss was trying to piece her life back together after the games and that stakes were "a lot higher."
Director Francis Lawrence added that the film was not completed yet and felt "weird" because being at "Cannes was like we were already on tour to promote the film," which is being released in November. He said that he wanted this film to reach a greater foreign audience because the first one did well in the US but not quite as good internationally. Director Lawrence also noted that the producers and cast were all great and that the adaptation was true to the spirit of the book. Finally, he commended the actors on their jobs and stated that he was pleased with how the film is coming along.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" tells the story of Katniss and Peeta as they embark on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games. As she tours, Katniss senses that a rebellion simmering even though the Capitol is still in control and President Snow is preparing the 75th Annual Hunger Games.
The film opens in theaters on November 22 and the Cannes Film Festival runs through the May 26th.
