A few weeks ago, rumors spread that Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti could be the new boss at Real Madrid. Recent reports indicate that Ancelotti has in fact asked to be moved to Spain's capital to replace the outgoing Jose Mourinho.

"We had a meeting and I asked to leave the club," Ancelotti said. "We now have to wait a few days for the club's response to decide my future and that of the club.

"I have options and Real Madrid is one of those. I will wait for the club's decision. We will decide together because my wish is to leave the club. It's not easy because I have a very good relationship with everyone. It's not the right time to explain my reasons -- and maybe I will never explain."

Ancelotti led Paris Saint-Germain to a French Ligue 1 championship this season. He also led the team to the quarterfinals of the Champions league where his club was eventually eliminated on away goals by Barcelona.

"Carlo asked to leave for Madrid, but we want him to stay," Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo told French sports newspaper L'Equipe Sunday. "There was no firm decision, we listened to Carlo. We have to consider everything for a bit.

"The priority is still that he remains with us. We have never contacted other managers."

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is expected to announce a return to Chelsea this week. Mourinho had a rough year with the club that featured locker room battles and a lack of trophies. Madrid relinquished its Spanish league title to Barcelona and was eliminated by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions league semifinals. On Friday, Real Madrid lost to rival Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey Final; it was the first time since 1999 that Real Madrid lost to Atletico.
