No one knows what the future holds for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. While the speculation continues to grow as the transfer window nears, retiring Manchester manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear that he does not care about the fate of his former star.

"I've no idea. It is not my department. I am no longer interested in that. [Incoming manager David Moyes] is going to deal with that," he stated about Rooney's future with the club. "I'm sure he will address it when he gets here. Quite rightly he wants to deal with that and I'm happy with that.

Ferguson did note that he has addressed the issue with Moyes and it seems that the new manager has interest in keeping Rooney.

"I have spoken to David a few times. Obviously he'll want to come in quite soon when the season finishes and speak to the staff and things like that," Ferguson said.

Ferguson publicly announced Rooney's desire to leave the squad after his final home game for Manchester. In that match, Rooney was benched because the striker did not want to play.

"I don't think Wayne Rooney was keen to play, simply because he's asked for a transfer," Ferguson revealed. "He wants to think it through in his mind, which is a good idea. We are not going to let him go but he is a little bit frustrated at being taken off once or twice in the last few weeks."

The speculation immediately mounted with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid listed as potential destinations. The latter team reportedly made a proposition to buy Rooney.

"Spanish paper AS reports Real president Florentino Perez met up with Manchester United chief executive David Gill for exploratory talks," wrote Express' Charles Perrin. "They also claim that Perez is willing to pay up to £32m to land Rooney and Gill was told there was no chance United could re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo."
