"Pablo Escobar: Boss of Evil" got off to a successful start last night on Telemundo.

The first episode related the villain's childhood and detailed how the boy who would eventually become the most iconic druglord in history was already an ambitious criminal. His ambition was already clear as he would steal exams from teachers and charge his fellow students and even brothers to benefit from them.

The episode also portrayed Pablo's mother as a good woman looking out for sons and giving Pablo advice on avoiding bad habits and addictions. At one point, the little boy tells his mother that staying away from addiction is fine, but asks, "What's wrong with selling it? After all everyone else is." His mother responds with, "forget about it."

The episode then details his teenage years and the growing ambition and courage in the young man.

At one point, he works as a bodyguard for a powerful delinquent and nonchalantly asks his boss to allow him to be his associate and partner. The boss gives him a chance and offers him an opportunity to deal contraband. Like this he gain his boss' trust, but he must do the first job for free.

Then the novela brings the audience to Escobar's first foray into contraband and explores his almost getting caught and his eventual success.

The episode ends with a birthday celebration for Pablo with his family and hints at his generosity as he distributes some of his new riches to all his loved ones.
