Neymar's rumored destination has constantly been in flux, but the latest possibility was a shocker. A report indicated that the youngster may be headed to Bayern Munich. However, the club has recently denied the rumors.
Club spokesman Markus Horwick recently stated in an interview with Bild that "This story is not true, however you look at it." He added that claims were "complete nonsense. There's absolutely no truth in this claim."
Of course, this would not be the first time in professional sports that an organization denies rumors and then turns around and goes through with the aforementioned deal. Of course, it could also mean that the previous reports were potentially misinformed or simply another twist in the rumor mill.
The original report came from a former Santos official called Vicente Cascione. "I have this information first hand. Neymar has signed for Bayern Munich. It's already a done deal," Cascione wrote on his blog. "I am not speculating here. This information is irrefutable. From August this year on, the player will be part of Bayern's squad."
He added, "So his next destination will not be Spain, like many expected. He's not going to Barcelona or Real Madrid. He will go to Germany."
Does that kind of certainty sound familiar? Here's another earlier comment from the venerated former soccer star Ronaldo. The former Brazilian World Cup Champion stated that the 21-year old Neymar "has the potential [to become one of the world's best players]. But we have to assess his impact on European football when he arrives at Barcelona." He was not even questioning whether Neymar was going anywhere but Barcelona.
Other major soccer personas have also stated that a Barcelona move is inevitable including current Santos coach Ramahlo. So how is it really possible to know if Cascione is not another variation on the same theme that everyone else has been singing?
For now the Neymar speculation will continue. The only thing inevitable at this point is that more rumors will continue to crop up.
