This Thursday is graduation day in Mystic Falls. It's been a long four years, full of its ups and downs (to put it mildly), and now it's all coming to end. There are still many looming questions to be answered before season 4 comes to a close, and the finale promises to be chockfull of high school memories, vampire drama, and of course, plenty of blood.
One of the most important and stressed issues concerns Elena (Nina Dobrev) and the Salvatore brothers. Previous rumors indicate that Elena will finally choose either Stefan (Paul Wesley) or Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in the season 4 finale, but it's unclear which brother will be victorious.
Now looking back however, a Give Me My Remote interview with executive producer Julie Plec from April may shed some light on Elena's ultimatum, as Wet Paint points out.
"It will revitalize the triangle for sure, and as far as the Elena and Damon information, I think what it will do is cement their relationship - or lack thereof - once she comes clean with a sense of at least semi-permanence, if not permanence," she said.
Although it's not definitive, it sounds like Plec is leaning towards a Delena outcome. "Semi-permanence, if not permanence" suggests that something will be going on between them, and "cement their relationship" sounds promising for Damon. Although it could be interpreted either way, there's little mention of Stefan.
"We will know, when the finale is over, where everyone stands in the context of the Stefan/Damon/ Elena triangle," Plec added. "It will definitely set all three of them on a very different and interesting path when we move forward."
On top of the typical Elena drama with the Salvatore brothers, she'll also engage in "an epic battle" with Katherine (Dobrev) during the finale, says Plec.
"When we started breaking Katherine's journey for the season, we knew we wanted to lead to a vampire confrontation between the two," she said. "The idea of having Elena finally being strong enough to at least put up a good fight felt like an opportunity we couldn't miss. I think Nina [Dobrev], as the hardest-working girl in show business this season, for sure, was just like, 'Oh my god, this is gonna be difficult,' but was really excited about it. She had to shoot the sequence on a Saturday, just her playing both roles, two stunt girls, a film crew, and a lot of knock-down-drag-out goodness."
It's going to be a memorable graduation day for Elena as the season 4 of "The Vampire Diaries" comes to a close this Thursday on The CW.
