As expected, no mention of Ann Curry was made in Savannah Guthrie's official "Today' show debut on Monday morning.
Lauer gave Guthrie initial welcome remarks and briefly introduced the new co-anchor. Soon after, Matt claimed that the best way to get to know Savannah was by getting straight to work which is what they did.
Savannah mentioned how thrilled and honored she felt to be there and shared feeling nervous for her new role.
On her first day, Guthrie interviewed former White House press secretary but now President Obama's adviser, Robert Gibbs.
The show also played a video clip about Guthrie's background, her ascendance as an NBC host, and her thoughts and feelings about becoming the new "Today' anchor.
Guthrie assumes the role in a crucial moment when the show's ratings are experiencing rating slumps.
Guthrie and Matt will team up to take on the challenge of lifting "Today" back to dominance.
Will they succeed?
Next on is the script of the show's opening segment:
Matt - And good morning. Welcome to "Today" on a Monday morning and it truly is a new day around here. I'm Matt Lauer and I'm please to be sharing the studio today with Savannah Guthrie who after several years of playing a great role on this program takes a step forward this morning and joins us as co-anchor of "Today". How does it feel?
Savannah - Great. Good morning. It is an honor to be here.
Matt - Well it's nice to be here because I get to be the first to officially say welcome and we are thrilled to have you. We have this goofy tradition here on the Today show and where we get to do a little "déjà vu" with you.
So one more time.

Savannah - So I'm going to have to get used to that. I'm glad you played it again because I was so nervous I didn't hear it the first time.
Lauer - You are going to have to watch this whole show again probably. I mentioned that Savannah has been with the show for a while serving not only as the co-anchor of the 9 o'clock hour, the third hour, here on today but as our chief legal correspondent. You've done a great job. Even just a couple of weeks ago, before you went on vacation, and I went on vacation we did a special report in the Supreme Court and their ruling on health care. You've done a great job on that area and you'll continue to do that as well and bring other talent to the show. So we're happy about that but I think we are happiest because you bring a great attitude and what we like to call a weird sense of humor. So, we are all very happy.
Savannah - Seven "o" two and he is already calling me weird.
Matt - By the way, we are going to spend some time this morning and over the next couple of days get to know Savannah better. But the best way to become official part of the team is just to get to work so let's do it.
