Tiger Woods is closing in on his second career Players Championship as the final day of the 2013 Players Championship golf tournament kicks off Sunday.
Woods vaulted onto the lead with he made a birdie and finished off the third round Sunday morning with a 1-under 71. On Saturday, Woods and Garcia were two stroked behind rookie golfer David Lingmerth, 25, who hit an eagle on the par-5 16th hole and a birdie on the 17th hole.
Things are starting to get heated between Woods and Garcia on the greens. On Saturday, Garcia ripped Woods, making his distaste for the No.1 golf player in the world known.
Things were especially chippy between them on Saturday when Garcia was trying to hit a shot to the right of the par-5 second hole. As he was standing over the ball, he heard noise from the crowd behind him that started due to Woods surveying his second shot. When Woods pulled a 5-wood from his bag, the crowd began to cheer.
Garcia felt that the noise was a distraction on his shot.
"I'm not going to lie,'' Garcia told ESPN. "He's not my favorite guy to play with. He's not the nicest guy on tour.''
Later, Garcia told the Golf Channel: "It's good for both of us. We don't enjoy each other's company. You don't have to be a rocket engineer to figure that out.''
The two golf stars have had a rivalry that dates back to 1999, when Woods and Garcia were rising stars in the golf world. Neither of them will be in the same group on Sunday.
Can Woods finally break his 12-year drought and win the tournament at the TPC Sawgrass for the second time in his career? Or will Garcia or Lingmerth take home the title this year?
