William Levy has signed on to work on "Salsa" alongside Jada Pinkett Smith.
Pinkett Smith announced today that she would be the lead and also produce the film with her company Overbrook Entertainment. It will be written and directed by Amy Heckerling and will also be produced by Miguel Melendez.
Levy will play a salsa instructor who will help Pinkett Smith see another side of her life as she faces a transitional period.
Levy will return to dance after his US breakout in "Dancing with the Stars" where he finished third. He is currently shooting "La Tempestad" in Veracruz and is gearing up to promote the telenovela which will air on May 13th in Mexico. The series will see Christina Aguilera and Alejandro Fernandez sing the theme song and will also star Jessica Coch, Ivan Sanchez, Laura Carmine and Ximena Navarrete. He recently filmed a new commercial for Pepsi in which he played six different characters. He also finished shooting "Addicted" and "Single Mom's Club" for Lionsgate. Levy has also been seen in telenovelas such as "El Triunfo del Amor," "Cuidado con el Angel" and "Sortilegio."
Pinkett Smith recently voiced the character of Gloria in "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," "The Women" and "The Matrix" Trilogy. She is currently producing "The Queen Latifah Show" and "After Earth." She also worked on "The Secret Life of Bees."
Heckerling last directed "Clueless" "Loser" and "Vamos." She also directed "Look Who's Looking" and"Fast Times at Ridgement High." She is currently working on "The Carrie Diaries" and "Gossip Girls."
The film will begin shooting in 2014 with an expected release date later that year.
