This weekend "What Maisie knew" will be unveiled in arthouse cinemas.
The film, starring Julianne Moore, Steve Coogan and Alexander Skarsgard, tells the story of a young girl who is caught in the middle of her parents' bitter custody battle.
The film has scored rave reviews with critics stating "It's undeniably difficult to watch at times, but What Maisie Knew ultimately rises on the strength of its solidly sourced script, powerful performances, and empathetic direction."
The New York Times stated "'What Maisie Knew' lays waste to the comforting dogma that children are naturally resilient, and that our casual, unthinking cruelty to them can be answered by guilty and belated displays of affection."
The Rolling stone gave the film three stars and said, "Directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel, abetted by an astute scriptfrom Nancy Doyne and Carroll Cartwright, find something sadly timeless in a child torn apart in a custody battle that no one wins, least of all the child."
The Chicago Sun-Times also gave the film raves and stated, "'What Maisie Knew' is an indictment of those who do not realize that innocence is not something to be scorned and used, but cherished and protected."
The New York Observer went as far as calling it one of the best films of the year. The said "Poignant and exemplary, this is one of the best films of 2013."
The film is directed by Scott McGhee and David Siegel. The duo have directed "Uncertainty" and "Bee Season." Moore can currently be seen in "The English Teacher" and will next be seen in "Carrie." Skarsgard best known for his work on "Melancholia" will next star in "The East" and "Tarzan." Coogan is set to star in "Despicable Me 2" this summer.
"What Maisie Knew" will be distributed by Millennium and is rated R for some language.
