The Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive due to issues with the Xbox 360's size constraints.
According to franchise director Hideo Kojima, the massive data size of Metal Gear Solid 4 proved to still be an issue while trying to bring the collection to the Xbox. While speaking to the Mogren Radio show via his blog, Kojima elaborated that the game works on the PlayStation 3 because that console uses a Blu-ray optical drive, while the Xbox 360's DVDs would require the game to ship on seven discs, not including the other three games in the collection.
"I'm sorry to say an Xbox 360 version isn't being released, because an Xbox 360 version of [Metal Gear Solid 4] hasn't gone on sale," Kojima stated. "To explain the situation, the amount of data in MGS4 is just too enormous."
"I want to put [The Legacy Collection] out [for Xbox 360. But we won't be releasing it."
Xbox gamers have a glimmer of hope though, as Kojima stated he would still be interested in porting the collection over, perhaps on the next Microsoft console.
"When it's the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release [The Legacy Collection]," Kojima said. "If we released a version on the Xbox 360 without MGS4, then it's not The Legacy Collection."
Microsoft's next-gen console is rumored to use a Blu-ray optical drive, making the size limitations a thing of the past.
Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection will be released in June. It will include the original Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition. It will also include two digital graphic novels with artwork by Ashley Wood.
