Final Fantasy 14's launch was quite a spectacular disaster, to say the least. The game was so glitchy and unplayable that Square Enix sent not one, but two apologies for the game. Now the game is being remade and rebranded as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, and looks to earn back the reputation that the series has had before the mess the previous version of the game caused. Well now it seems as though Square Enix is ready to relaunch the game this summer, with another round of closed beta in June, according to Eurogamer.

The MMO, the first in the Final Fantasy series since Final Fantasy 11, promises to correct many of the mistakes from the first version of the game, including a new server system and the reworking of several job classes. The game's beta will finally be opened up for the PlayStation 3 version of the game. The game will be cross platform with the PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the game, allowing players on both systems to explore the world together. Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, two cities from the game, will be opened up as part of the beta as well.

The producer for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, Naoki Yoshida, explained that the rebuilding of the game is an effort by Square Enix to rebuild the legendary franchise and gain back fans who were angry about the recent dip in quality from the series.

"Losing your fans' trust is very easy thing to do. Regaining it is very hard...We believe Final Fantasy 14 is a starting point, and that players joining us will think 'oh wow, this is great, I'll see what they can do with Final Fantasy 15 or 16'.

The original Final Fantasy 14 was released on September 30, 2010 for the PC, and then was shut down on November 11, 2012. The PlayStation 3 version of the original game never saw the light of day. Signup for the closed beta can be found here.
