The season four premiere of "The Walking Dead" is still months away, but that doesn't stop fans from digging up as much dirt as possible on what's to come. They need their zombie fix now. In a recent interview with Wet Paint, Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn, opened up about what's in store for the "Walking Dead" fans and reflects on the past season's ups and downs.
"It was a no holds-barred, kind of like Volume 11," Yeun said. "It was really great, and we got to tell some amazing stories and kind of ramp up the energy. I'm excited for this next season so we can dive into the characters and let things breath, too."
Yeun was upset to see Andrea (Laurie Holden) go at the end of last season, but recognizes that death is a key element to the show's success. "Yes, that was rough! A lot of other people get killed off, too," he said.
Luckily for Yeun, it's been rumored that Andrea will still be a key character in the new season. As "Walking Dead" fans know, the show regularly relies on flashbacks to shed light on the characters' pasts, so although she may not be in the thick of the zombie killing mayhem, Andrea will not be forgotten. Robert Kirkman, "The Walking Dead" comic book writer, says that there is "definitely some room [for] the relationship between Michonne [Danai Jekesai Gurira] and Andrea, it's always possible."
Although Yeun couldn't say much, he assured fans that the upcoming season will not disappoint. A typical response, but it's still music to fans' ears. "We read the first script, and that's it, and I can just say that it's going to be pretty awesome," he said. "If I want to keep my job, that's all I can say."
Recent photos have also given fans a little taste of what they can expect from season four. DreadCentral reported that AMC revealed the photos of "Andrew Lincoln (Rick) learning to use a machete and IronE Singleton (T-Dog) getting made up to be devoured by a zombie."
Cast and crew members have already been spotted in Georgia, proving that they're geared up and ready to go for season four. Their ambition and enthusiasm are good indicators that the new season will be, as Yeun so eloquently put it, "pretty awesome."
Despite Yeun's vague comments, fans should prepare themselves for plenty of death. It's custom. The show wouldn't work without it. Andrea's death last season proved that no one's safe, not even the centrals characters, and Kirkman expressed the same sentiments for season four. "We've been saying that no one is safe on this show, and I wouldn't rule out seeing the death of Rick Grimes at almost any point."
"The Walking Dead" will return to AMC in October 2013.
