John Williams will score "Star Wars Episode 7." Despite no official confirmation from Lucasfilm, director J.J. Abrams stated that Williams will be the composer.
"I believe that going forward that John Williams will be doing that because apparently he was there long before I was," said Abrams during a press conference in Berlin for his new film "Star Trek Into Darkness." Abrams was asked whether longtime collaborator Michael Giacchino would score the film, but Abrams conceded that Williams was the likely composer.
Williams stated a few months ago that he was interested in returning for another go with the franchise. "We're about to play Star Wars and each time we play it, I'm reminded of the first time we played it decades ago. Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I'd have to revisit the themes...and years later another trilogy," the 81-year old composer told a concert audience. Now we're hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016...so I need to make sure I'm still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George."
Williams has scored all six Star Wars movies and his soundtrack is one of the most iconic in film history.
Star Wars Episode 7 is set to arrive in the summer of 2015 and will be written by Michael Arndt. There is no confirmed cast by Lucasfilm but Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original trilogy, recently revealed that she was getting a personal trainer from Disney to prepare for the film.
"I like being bought by Disney, because they never wanted to buy me before. I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape," said Fisher. "So I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything."
