Ann Curry's 'goodbye' video on the 'Today' show was not only a sad one to watch for many, it was also a popular search as it immediately started trending on Google.
No matter how popular the video was, NBC's bid of making the 'Today' show more popular by replacing Curry with Savannah Guthrie may have suffered a reversal as ratings for the 'Today' show significantly dropped the next day.
The Hollywood Reporter published a report stating that preliminary Nielsen data found the June 28 broadcast of the 'Today' show - the day Curry gave her 'farewell' - was viewed by 4.31 million viewers, 180,000 more than ABC's 'Good Morning America'.
However, on Savannah Guthrie's debut the following day, June 29, 'Today' pulled in 4.02 million viewers compared to GMA's 4.41 million. The difference may have perhaps flocked from one side to the other, but there was no mention or precise data for that.
The fact however is that people were not pleased with Ann Curry leaving the show and thus several stated to discontinue watching 'Today' in the short run.
The Latinos Post had the opportunity to ask a regular 'Today' show viewer, Susan Ball, regarding her opinion on NBC's decision to oust Curry.
"Ann was the most professional, caring journalist around. What is NBC thinking! Ann was not the problem and they will see that when their ratings drop because of this mistake. I guess it is time to start watching GMA," Ball responded.
Sara, another 'Today' show commented the following, "I've been watching the Today Show for over 25 years and am upset that you let Ann Curry, the most kind TV person I've ever viewed, go! I will stop watching 'Today' and switch to something else."
Not all people however were sad to see Curry leave. Some welcomed the idea.
"I was never a fan of Ann Curry after the cold interview she did with Bindy Irwin. Sorry, just did not get past it. Also, Ann did not set a fun tone," said Debbie Robson, another 'Today' viewer.
Still, the number of people not satisfied with the replacement seems to outweigh the number people who seem to be satisfied, at least according to a poll.
In a online poll*, the Latinos Post found that out of 5,131 votes, 88 percent believed "NBC made a mistake" in replacing Ann Curry versus 9.7 percent. That's 4,516 votes against 499.
NBC may have perhaps expected the mentioned outcomes preferring to secure the show in the long run, but one thing for sure is that the decision made with Ann Curry displeased many viewers.
*Unscientific, the poll does not allow repeat votes on the same computer. Also, the good majority of the votes come from U.S. IP addresses.
