Superheroes are an important staple in modern society. They're beacons of light in an otherwise dark, foreboding world. They encapsulate bravery and, as their title suggests, heroism. They serve as important role models and symbols justice. Those who commit crime must pay the consequences. The superheroes keep everything in balance. They maintain the societal structures we've established and strived to uphold. And, perhaps most importantly, they entertain.

Fictional superheroes continue to make their way to big screen. We've seen Spider-Man soar through the New York cityscape. We've seen Batman rescue the city of Gotham from The League of Shadows and Iron Man serve justice on a global scale. More and more heroes make their way to Hollywood. This summer we'll see the return of Superman in "Man of Steel" as well as Iron Man in "Iron Man 3," and then come fall, Thor will make his mighty return in "Thor: The Dark World."

Now, fans can get a taste of what to expect from the Thor sequel in the newly released trailer. The trailer features Thor (Chris Hemsworth) back in Asgard following the events of "The Avengers." In basic superhero movie format, he'll face new villains (Christopher Eccleston and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) while protecting the world and the love of his life, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Watch the trailer below.

Upon Thor's return, a new evil force threatens both his godly home and Earth. At the end of the trailer, we see that Thor has no choice but to turn to his brother and long-time rival Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in order to save the Nine Realms from the Dark Elves. We knew Thor would return for a battle of epic proportions, and the trailer has confirmed just that.

"Thor: The Dark World" will hit theaters November 8 via Marvel. It's going to be an action packed year. Brace yourselves.
