A new video posted by Szabolcs Ignacz on YouTube details a scratch test of the new Gorilla Glass 3 screen on the Samsung Galaxy S4. It withstands knives, coins and keys in an impressive display of durability.
First Ignacz strikes the surface of what looks like a new Galaxy S4 with a pen. The metal tip doesn't make a mark, nor does the ink flow onto the screen, and the glass is undamaged.
Next up is a butter knife, with much the same results. Sliding and scraping the edge of the blade across the surface of the Galaxy S4 causes no noticeable damage, even in the light.
After that, it's a serrated knife, but the sharp teeth still have no effect on the glass. It's the same story with a steak knife.
Then Ignacz tries house keys, to no effect, finally followed by a series of coins. Nothing impacts the glossy finish of the Galaxy S4's screen.
While the scratch test is a testament to modern engineering, most consumers will probably be more interested in a drop test, whenever that happens. These days, nearly everyone picks up s aplastic screen protector, which if installed correctly is almost invisible and can be easily replaced.
The main killer of smartphones is a drop that cracks the screen, or an unlucky dip in liquid.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
