A former producer on the Battlefield series hopes that the company will eventually return to the futuristic settings of earlier games, according to a recent Twitter post. Gordon Van Dyke, who worked for Battlefield developer DICE for Battlefield 2142, as well as Battlefield: 1943 and the Bad Company series, recently posted his feelings about the return to the future settings instead of the modern setting of Battlefield 4.
"BF2142 successor on Frostbite Engine would be amazing, but does DICE got the balls to leave the safe haven of a modern war setting? Hope so."
Part of Van Dyke's feelings come from the fact that he believes that Battlefield 2142 did not perform as well as it could have in terms of technology, Van Dyke later added.
"When I worked on Battlefield 2142, we definitely didn't hit the games [sic] full potential, and I think under the right leadership they could now,"
Van Dyke clearly feels like the company is going in the wrong direction, and needs a change in settings to break through all the other modern warfare clones that have hit the market. By returning to the futuristic setting, it would help Battlefield stand out even more, just like the zombie modes that have become a huge hit for the Call of Duty series. Though Van Dyke no longer works for DICE, he is now an executive producer for the War of the Roses series for Paradox Interactive.
Though Battlefield 4 may take place in modern times, there is still plenty to be excited about for fans of the series. The game is slated to appear so far on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, with many expecting the game to also come to next-gen consoles once they are released. The game does not have a release date yet.
