Many Daft Punk fans rejoiced earlier this week when the synth pop duo released their first single off their upcoming album Random Access Memories. Unfortunately, the brief moment of jubilance has quickly turned to utter disappointment. That's right, the version of "Get Lucky" you've all been jamming to over and over again the past several days is a fake. The music Gods have smited us all.
Here's the not-so-official version.
The popular version of the leaked single is nothing more than compiled sounds from the same 90-second clip that has been featured in the various advertisements promoting the album. If you listen closely, you can hear how the song loops directly back to the beginning at the 1:46 mark, and then it happens again at 3:18. You can hear the exact clips featured in the album's original SNL commercial and this past weekend's advertisement that debuted during Coachella. Watch both it below.
As exciting as it would have been to finally have the first studio track from Daft Punk in eight years, we're just going to have to wait. Fans may be dismayed that the leaked version is a fake, but look at the bright side. The album is just over a month away. After eight years, one more month won't kill us. In the meantime, the fan-made version is better than nothing. It still gives us a broader taste of what the track will sound like, even if it isn't exact. So for now, keep jamming out to the little that we have and prepare yourselves for what's on the horizon.
Daft Punk's Random Access Memories will hit stores on May 21.
