CD Projekt has recently gained a cult following here in the United States with The Witcher series, and with The Witcher 3 slated to come out on next-gen consoles in February, the studios co-founder, Marcin Iwinski, believes that Sony and Microsoft will need to seriously impress gamers with their next-gen offering, according to an interview with Edge.
"I'm really curious what the platform holders will deliver this generation because they really have to surprise and blow people away...The technology is one part, and then there's the method of delivery - this is the part I'm super-excited about," Iwinski said. "We have GoG.com and direct relations with consumers there, of course there's Steam, and I'm really excited to see what will happen on the next-gen consoles, because iOS and Android consoles have completely turned it all upside down,"
With the rise of mobile gaming in the past few years, many are worried that console gaming could fade away and be replaced by the casual gaming market. While Iwinski does not seem terribly concerned about the transition, obviously he has seen the effect the mobile gaming revolution has had on the console industry, and hopes Sony and Microsoft adjust during the next generation.
"Here's the developer, here's the gamer - they should talk...If there's a chain of people in the middle that is kind of muffled. The more direct the communication, the better the games are. It's that simple," he explained.
Iwinski notes that CD Projekt has direct lines of communications with fans on the PC at least, with Steam and GoG.com offering direct access for gamers and developers to each other. We shall see if the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 truly do blow people away, or continue to lose ground to mobile platforms.
