"Iron Man 3" looks to be in for a huge box office opening.
According to Deadline.com, the film is on track to open with $125+ million in its opening weekend. The publication asserts that film is tracking well with women and Hispanics. The total is likely to top its predecessor "Iron Man 2" which raked in $128,122,480 |
in its first three days; that opening weekend figure is the seventh highest of all time. That opening is a far cry from the series' debut when "Iron Man" made $98,618,668 in its opening weekend, the 24th highest opening weekend of all time. The original film went on to gross $318 million while the sequel earned $312 million. "Iron Man 3" is directed by Shane Black and follows Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) as his world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin. Stark is forced to start an odyssey in which he must rebuild his life and seek retribution. Downey Jr. is currently on tour to promote the film. His trip includes stops in South Korea, Beijing, Moscow, Munich, Paris, and London. On April 24 he will travel to Los Angeles for the film's premier at the El Capitan; the New York premiere takes place on April 29. The film hits theaters on May 3. |
