Twitter has launched a new version of their social media app for the Android and iOS. Despite updating the app for both Google and Apple platforms, it is before mentioned that received the most improvements.

"Its new design reflects a native Android experience: wider and taller timelines that fill the screen, a flat navigation bar, tap and hold for quick actions, and more," wrote Android Technical Lead Jonathan Le.

The update allows Twitter users to navigate quickly between tabs via swiping across the display. In efforts to connect with friends or join conversations easier, potential usernames and hashtag suggestions will appear when the user starts typing a tweet or search.

As for Apple's iOS, more content will be provided, particularly for photo galleries, apps, and product listings.

In addition, version 5.5 for the iOS includes:

- Faster launch times and general performance upgrades

- "Retweeted by" in Tweet detail is now tappable

- Fix for reply-to-self in conversations

- Fix for a bug that prevented undoing retweets in some cases

The updated Twitter app is compatible for iOS 5 and later. The app is optimized for the iPhone 5.

Le added, "These updates, which are rolling out to users over the next several days, are part of our ongoing effort to make it easier for you to connect with interesting and relevant content on Twitter."
