The final WWE show before WrestleMania 29 was taped at the Verizon Center in Washington on Monday, and while it was a short program, it still set the stage for some of the key events leading up to Sunday's big show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
For the most part, the rest of the show is to be taped throughout the week, with WWE inserting footage and matches from WWE Access, the fan event that hypes WrestleMania.
However, the rest of the show, as Wrestlezone.com reports, was taped prior to Monday Night Raw, featuring two matches and one segment.
One of those matches involved Ryback defeating Epico and Primo. In a throwback to his early days last year, Ryback beat both men in a handicap match by hitting his Shell-Shocked finisher on both Epico and Primo at the same time. This match served as a warmup to Ryback's big encounter at WrestleMania with the World's Strongest Man, Mark Henry.
Next up, Team Rhodes Scholars, Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow, came out with the Bellas, both Rhodes and Sandow dressed like Brodus Clay and Tensai, known collectively as Tons of Funk. Team Rhodes Scholars and the Bellas will be facing Clay and Tensai on Sunday along with the Funkadactlys in an eight-person intergender tag team match.
They cut a promo on the team, but were interrupted by Tons of Funk and then a brawl escalated from there until the bigger and stronger Tensai and Clay team drove Rhodes and Sandow to the back, giving their impending WrestleMania match a needed boost.
And in the main event for the night, Jack Swagger had one final tune-up before his big World Heavyweight Championship Match with Alberto Del Rio on Sunday when he defeated Kofi Kingston with his Patriot Act ankle lock submission hold.
