DICE, the company that developers the Battlefield series, has shown interest in developing a following for Battlefield 4 for Esports competition, much like other first person shooters such as Call of Duty. DICE's general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson, in a new video interview with Luetin09, spoke about Esports and the difficulties bringing Battlefield 4 to the competition.
"I can say that eSports is an area that we are very interested in...iIt's not as easy as some game developers like to think; that's it's just that you do A, X, Y, and Z and everything is done. It's actually much bigger than that now...There are some people that actually see this as a new phenomenon and that's not true either. It's been around for a long time. It's just recently that it's really starting to take off..."
Troedsson also stated that he believed that Battlefield 4 would succeed because the game's fanbase is very competitive, and would lend themselves naturally to professional gaming.
Troedsson also revealed some new details about Battlefield 4, and what players can expect from the game. Mainly, Troedsson revealed that the co-op experience that came with Battlefield 3 will no longer be available to players in the new Battlefield 4.
"We don't have co-op in Battlefield 4. We have made that decision. We're focusing everything we have on multiplayer and the single-player,"
Battlefield 4 is being produced by EA, and will be released in the fall for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game is also expected to be released for next-gen consoles as well. The game is also speculated to have 64 player maps added to the multiplayer experience of Battlefield 4. Recently, EA released a 17 minute gameplay trailer for the game, showing off the Frostbite 3 engine at work.
