Internet Explorer continues to dominate the desktop browser market share, according to latest figures for March.
Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser had almost double the market share Mozilla Firefox accounted for. According to NetMarketShare, Internet Explorer garnered 55.83 percent, while the Mozilla browser accounted for 20.21 percent.
Google's Chrome browser placed third with 16.45 percent while Apple's Safari failed to reach double-digit territory with 5.31 percent.
When breaking down the browsers to their respective versions, it is Internet Explorer 8 that tops all desktop browsers. With 23.23 percent, the eighth Internet Explorer passed Internet Explorer 9, which received 20.62 percent, enough to comfortably place second.
Mozilla Firefox 19 placed third with 13.55 percent, but Google Chrome 25 was close behind with 13.42 percent.
Rounding up the top five is Internet Explorer once again, with 6.0 receiving 6.21 percent.
In February's desktop browser version market share numbers, the new Internet Explorer 10 failed to register, however, March's figures saw it in neck-to-neck competition with Apple Safari 6.0. Internet Explorer 10 garnered 2.93 percent, just 0.02 percent less to Safari's 2.95 percent.
In comparison to February's market share numbers, Internet Explorer 8 and 9 did decline with one percent or less. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, meanwhile, saw significant gains, with 10.28 percent and 10.23 percent respectively.
