Far Cry 3 has been rumored for awhile now to get an expansion entitled Blood Dragon, but now it appears that details are emerging about the expansion, which is so over-the-top and goofy that some are questioning if this is indeed what the expansion will be, or if Ubisoft is playing a prank for April Fools Day.
How strange can the teaser site for people to call it fake? Here is the story summary listed on the website:
"The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on."
This clashes completely with the main game's serious story and themes, but DLC allows developers a chance to tackle different angles outside of a game's story. There are several pieces of evidence that make this website seem legitimate. Ubisoft had been planning on releasing a DLC package for the game called Blood Dragon for some time now, and it us rumored to fit the 80's theme the website is spoofing. The teaser site has a fake mech section, which links up to a leaked set of achievements on Exophase (click on "The game for your home entertainment system" button), suggesting that this is no mere prank.
While some may be questioning why Ubisoft would fill Far Cry 3 with dragons that shoot lasers out of there eyes, it certainly offers an over-the-top experience that gamers who bypassed the main game might want to check out. The retro style could offer the game a fresh breath of life, and could be a breakaway success for the game like Call of Duty's zombie mode.
