Kate Mara has joined the cast of Wally Pfister's directional debut "Transcendence."

Mara joins Rebecca Hall and Johnny Depp in the film that was written by newcomer Jack Palgen. The movie will tell the story of a scientist whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer. Aside from that plot poin, the filmmakers have kept the movie secret.

Pfister will direct the film and Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder will serve as Executive Producers. Marisa Polvino, Annie Marter, Kate Cohen and David Valdes will produce with Straight Up films. Alcon Entertainment's Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson will also produce and finance.

Mara is best known for her work on "Iron Man 2" and "127 Hours."

She was last seen in the Netflix hit "House of Cards," the Tron TV series "Tron: Uprising" and "Deadfall" with Eric Bana. She will next be seen in "Fighting Jacob."

Pfister has been the cinematographer to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Series. He was nominated for the Academy Award for his work on "The Prestige," "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight" and won for "Inception." He also worked on Bennett Miller's "Moneyball" and "The Italian Job."

Hall beat out Emily Blunt and Mara's sister Rooney Mara for the female lead while Depp was Pfister's first and only choice for the lead role.

Principal photography is set to begin in April in Los Angeles. The movie will open on April 25, 2014 by Warner Bros.
