On March 28th, "G.I Joe Retaliation" will be released in theaters nationwide.
The film, starring Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, and Channing Tatum, is the sequel to the 2009 hit and follows the G.I. Joes as they continue to fight their mortal enemy Cobra and are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.
While the first installment obtained terrible reviews the new installment has received mixed reviews with various critics enjoying it. IGN gave it 7 stars out of 10 stating "It's like an elaborate, expensive cosplay with big explosions and set pieces and enough of a winking sense of humor to let you know everyone is there to have a good time."
Urban Cinefile stated, "Channelling my inner 18 year old, the first word that hits my keyboard is - awesome! G.I. Joe is about big boys' toys and high calibre action. Tick and tick."
HitFix also enjoyed it stating "This movie is breathless in all the right ways, and I think audiences will have fun with it."
However many critics were not convinced. Time out gave it a 2 out 5 and stated, "It looks as though some bright spark at Joe HQ decided that what the series needed was to lose its fun, post-'Team America' self-awareness and replace it with unironic jingoism, military-fetish hardware and heavy-handed nods to real world events."
Empire Magazine also disliked it and said, "The first film you could at least laugh at. This takes all its silly ingredients and smushes them down flat."
The film is directed by John M. Chu, best known for his work on "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never." He also directed "Step Up 3D" and "Step Up 2: The Streets." Johnson was last seen in "Snitch" and will next be seen in Dito Montiel's "Empire State" and Michael Bay's "Pain and Gain" with Mark Wahlberg. He will also star in "Fast and Furious 6" and "Ciudad." Willis last starred in "A Good Day to Die Hard" and next reprises his role of Frank Moses in "Red 2."
Tatum appeared earlier this year in Steven Soderbergh's "Side Effects" and will next star alongside Steve Carell in "Foxcatcher."
"Retaliation" opens in 3,500 theaters and is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of combat violence and martial arts action throughout, and for brief sensuality and language.
