As the season four finale of "The Vampire Diaries" approaches, so does Elijah. That's right, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) will be gracing episode 18, "American Gothic," this Thursday evening on The CW. As excited as fans may be for his return to Mystic Falls, Gillies himself hints that it may not be as glorious as we all hope.
"Elijah's going to shock and possibly even horrify a few," he told Entertainment Weekly. "In fact, I'll say he's going to horrify many. But frankly, I don't care. I think what he's doing is wonderful."
Although the details are scarce, we're told that Elijah will come back and attempt to keep his family together. However, along his admirable quest, he'll "horrify" fans by causing controversy in the picturesque Mystic Falls.
How so? By making out with Elena (Nina Dobrev). A crazed Elena will do anything to find the cure, even if that means kissing Elijah. Earlier in the episode, Elena finds Katherine and insists her to give her the cure, a demand that Katherine immediately rejects.
Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice Accola) is upset she's assigned to assist Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and their relationship is pushed to the brink. In a recent spoiler photo from The CW, Caroline is seen threating Klaus with what looks like a dagger. This doesn't seem to fit with her character, and although nothing can be said for sure, perhaps it's Silas taking Caroline's form and playing with a distraught Klaus.
Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are still concerned about Elena's recent killing spree and other questionable acts, but she still refuses to turn her emotions back on. Surprisingly however, Damon seems determined that Elena finds the cure no matter what.
The end of season four is near, and with the return of Elijah, "American Gothic" should be a pivotal installment in "The Vampire Diaries" series.
Official CW Synopsis: Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) take off in search of Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) and find themselves in a small town in Pennsylvania, where Elena has a surprising encounter with another old acquaintance - Elijah (guest star Daniel Gillies). Damon is not sure how to react when Stefan reveals his unexpected plan for the future. Meanwhile, in Mystic Falls, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) receives Caroline's (Candice Accola) reluctant help and comes to a new understanding of Silas' powers. Kellie Cyrus directed the episode written by Evan Bleiweiss & Jose Molina (#418).
